Frequently Asked Questions

How the tool works, and what happens to your data.

What does the Finance File Organiser do?

It combines CSV statements from several bank accounts into one clean list of transactions. You can tidy merchant names, delete rows you don't need, flag joint expenses, and then export the result.

How are joint expenses handled?

You can mark a whole statement as joint, or mark individual transactions. Your share is 50% by default and you can change the percentage. The exported amounts reflect your share only, so shared spending isn't counted in full.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Your statements are processed entirely in your browser and never leave your device. The only outside request is an exchange-rate lookup when a statement contains foreign currency, and it sends just the currency code.

What happens with foreign currency transactions?

If the tool finds amounts that aren't in AUD, it asks how you want to handle them. You can convert them to AUD using a live rate or a rate you type in yourself, or keep the original amounts as they are.

Which banks and file types are supported?

It accepts CSV files exported from ANZ, CBA, NAB, Westpac and many other banks. You can add several files at once.

What can I export?

You can download a clean CSV with joint amounts already adjusted, or a full data CSV that also includes the raw amount, joint flag and source file. You can also send the transactions straight to the Expense Trend Analyser without saving a file.
