1. Who We Are

FamilyFolio ("we", "us", "our") is a personal finance planning tool for Australian families, operated as a personal project. Our service is available at familyfolio.app.

We are committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

• Account information: your name and email address when you sign up
• Financial data: property details, loan balances, income, expenses, savings balances, and any other information you choose to enter into FamilyFolio
• Communications: any messages you send us via email or the contact form

Information collected automatically

• Usage data: pages visited, features used, and general interaction patterns (for improving the service)
• Device information: browser type, operating system, and approximate location (country/state level only)

Information we do NOT collect

• We do not collect payment card details — FamilyFolio is currently free
• We do not collect your bank account credentials or connect to your bank
• We do not collect or store government identifiers (e.g. Tax File Number)

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and improve the FamilyFolio service
• Authenticate your account and keep it secure
• Display your financial data back to you within the app
• Respond to your support enquiries
• Send important service updates (not marketing emails without consent)
• Understand how the service is used so we can improve it

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. How We Store Your Data

Your data is stored using Supabase (supabase.com), a cloud database platform hosted on AWS infrastructure. Supabase stores data in the United States. By using FamilyFolio, you consent to your data being transferred to and stored in the United States.

We implement reasonable security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), row-level security policies, and authenticated access controls. However, no internet service can guarantee absolute security.

Financial data you enter is stored only so we can display it back to you — it is not analysed, sold, or used for any purpose other than operating the service.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data and all associated financial data will be deleted within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal reasons.

6. Sharing of Information

We do not sell or share your personal information except in the following limited circumstances:

• Service providers: Supabase (database), Netlify (hosting), and Google (if you use Google sign-in). These providers process your data only as needed to provide the service.
• Sharing features: If you use the "Share with family member" feature, the financial data you choose to share will be accessible to the email addresses you nominate.
• Legal requirements: If required by Australian law, court order, or to protect the safety of users.

7. Your Rights (Australian Privacy Principles)

Under the Australian Privacy Act, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate or out-of-date information
• Delete your account and associated data
• Complain about a breach of your privacy rights

If you are unsatisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

8. Cookies

FamilyFolio uses essential cookies required for authentication (keeping you signed in). We do not currently use advertising or tracking cookies.

9. Children's Privacy

FamilyFolio is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at hello@familyfolio.app.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users by email if we make material changes. Continued use of FamilyFolio after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
